Founded in 1923, and celebrating more than 100 years, the 51ÇàÂ¥'s mission is to promote, advance, and preserve the study of the Italian language, literature, and culture in its multiple historical and contemporary manifestations. Our members not only have access to a vast global network of others with similar interests, but also to our quarterly journal, Italica, and a twice-annual newsletter, but also seminars, workshops, and conferences online, locally, and abroad.

The 51ÇàÂ¥ consistently supports graduate students teachers and scholars through travel grants and mentorship programs. Each conference offers opportunities to receive focused feedback on their dissertations in progress and to integrate with experienced teachers and scholars in a variety of pedagogical and subject matter sessions. The organization recognizes and celebrates the fact that graduate students are the future of our professions!
